Upstairs in Claire’s room, Tarana and Angelique sat on the bed with glasses of wine in their hands watching Misty pull dresses out of the closet and hold them up for Claire’s approval. With a lot of debate, they narrowed it down to only a few.

“I think you should wear red, Mother. Red is your color. What do you think, girls?”

“Rouge, oui,” said Angelique.

“Try this one on.”

“I was thinking black,” said Claire.

“This isn’t a funeral, Mother. You want to look vibrant and alive.”

“But my favorite dress is black. The one with the sequins.”

“You can try it on next. Put the red one on first and we’ll vote on it.”

Claire slipped the red dress over her head, straightened her hair and the girls all clapped their hands.

Misty lifted her glass in a toast.
